Founded in 1988 by Stephen Proctor and Andrew Matthews the practice is now established as one of the UK's leading design studios and has completed a variety of projects in numerous sectors across the UK. The practice has also worked in Ireland, Norway, Italy, Georgia, the USA and St Kitts in the Caribbean.

Proctor and Matthews is an expanding studio employing a highly motivated and diverse range of qualified architects. Project teams currently include architects from the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, France and China. The practice provides clients with a comprehensive design service applying the same rigorous attention to the design, detail and assembly stages of all building projects. Project teams are managed by a creative core of directors and associate directors with wide ranging experience in the residential, commercial, leisure, sports and arts sectors.

Throughout its 24 year history the practice has been the recipient of more than 40 national and international design awards, including recognition from the RIBA, Civic Trust, World Wildlife Fund and various housing bodies. In 2010 the practice won four national awards for its housing projects including Best Affordable Housing at the British Homes Awards.
